This charming town is known for its rich history, vibrant waterfront, and access to some of Ontario’s most natural landscapes. Overview Of Midland, Ontario
Midland, Ontario is a picturesque town located along the southern shores of Georgian Bay, about 165 km (just under 2 hours) north of Toronto. It’s part of the beautiful Simcoe County region and Wendat/Huronia region. It serves as the gateway to the 30,000 Islands, one of the largest freshwater archipelagos in the world.

If you’re looking for a cozy town that’s full of outdoor activities, culture and beautiful sights to see, Midland is definitely worth considering for a quick Ontario weekend getaway.

Visit the Martyrs’ Shrine
For those who are interested in Canada’s rich religious history, the Martyrs’ Shrine is a place of importance. This Catholic shrine commemorates the eight saints who were martyred in the 1600s. The Martyrs’ Shrine is also known for its gorgeous architecture and artwork.
Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
The Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre is a nature lover’s paradise. Home to a wide range of birds, reptiles, and mammals, a stroll around the marsh is a great way to enjoy the great outdoors. With hiking trails, canoeing and kayaking, and interactive exhibits, there are activities suitable for visitors of all ages.
Driver’s Tip: Reserve a spot to take a guided sunset paddle every Friday night from June to the end of August
Take a Tour of the Sainte Marie Among the Hurons

One of my favourite things to do when I’m visiting Midland is delving further into Canada’s history. I highly recommend taking a tour of Sainte Marie Among the Hurons. This historic site was established in the 1600s as a French Jesuit mission to the Huron people. You can spend a day exploring reconstructed buildings, hands-on presentations, and demonstrations of 17th-century life.
Driver’s Tip: There is a small picnic area at the entrance, so pack a lunch and spend the day


Check out the Midland Cultural Centre
For those interested in the arts, the Midland Cultural Centre is a must-see. This venue hosts a variety of events, including music, art, and theatre performances. The centre is also home to galleries and exhibition spaces which showcase a range of local art.
Huronia Museum
The Huronia Museum offers a rich collection of exhibits on the history and culture of Central Ontario. The Huronia/Wendat Village can also be found here and can be explored by taking a self-guided tour. The Village depicts life between 1500 and 1600, prior to the arrival of the Europeans.
Visit Georgian Bay National Park

A trip to Midland, Ontario wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Georgian Bay National Park. Georgian Bay National Park, part of the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, is an excellent place to enjoy a hike through beautiful forests, have a family picnic, or jump into clear Canadian waters.
If you’re looking to camp, Georgian Bay National Park has several campgrounds to choose from. The park offers both backcountry camping and front-country camping, so whether you’re looking to rough it in the wilderness or prefer a more comfortable camping experience, there’s an option for you.
Search For Murals

Midland is famous for its vibrant outdoor murals. It boasts over 30 giant paintings that bring the town’s history and stories to life that can be found on building walls throughout downtown!
Discovery Harbour
For a fun, quirky and unique experience, consider exploring the Discovery Harbour (just a short drive away in the Town of Penetanguishene). This living history site is home to two replica tall ships, costumed interpreters, and interactive displays that transport you to the days of British naval life on the Great Lakes. Discovery Harbour is part museum and part adventure, loved by kids and adults alike.

Georgian Bay Cruise: My Favourite Thing To Do In Midland


A sight-seeing cruise on Georgian Bay is a must-do activity when visiting Midland. The cruise lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours and takes you through the islands to Honey Harbour. A cruise is the best way to take in the beauty of this area which is only accessible by boat.
The sight-seeing cruise with Georgian Spirit leaves directly from the Midland harbour. It is fully licensed and offers rotating snacks to enjoy throughout your cruise.
Relax At The Harbour


Once you’ve tackled everything to do in Midland, there is no better way to end the day than to watch the yachts come and go, with a cold drink in hand.
The Boathouse Eatery (my favourite drinking and eating spot in Midland) is ideally situated directly on the harbour. They offer a large menu, but more importantly, a wide variety of cocktails. This is the spot where you want to be to finish up your visit to Midland.
