Best Wineries in Norfolk County
When Ontarian’s thing of wine country, the first thing that comes to mind is Niagara. While it is Ontario’s largest wine region, it’s definitely not our only one.
Norfolk is an up and coming wine region, which has less crowds, yet still offers great wine and lots of entertainment to go along with it.
The following wineries are definitely not all of the wineries, but in my opinion, they’re the best wineries that Norfolk County has to offer.

Burning Kiln Winery: Best Winery in Norfolk County
Location: 1709 Front Street, St. Williams
A Little About the Burning Kiln Winery
The Burning Kiln Winery is the largest and most well-known winery in Norfolk County.
For generations the Burning Kiln was used to grow tobacco. It’s now home to the vast vineyards, producing passito-style wines, using the traditional tobacco kilns.
Location of Burning Kiln Winery
Burning Kiln is located central to most major Ontario cities. It’s directly across the street from Long Point Eco-Adventures, which offers views over-looking an Ontario UNESCO site.
Entertainment
What makes the Burning Kiln Winery so popular in Norfolk County, other than its wine, is the vast amount of entertainment provided throughout the warmer months.
Visitors to the winery will be treated to live music in the vineyard when visiting on a Saturday or Sunday. Many times advance tickets are required, so I recommend checking their calendar in advance.
In addition, to live music in the Summer, there are specialized events that take place throughout the year. Check to see what’s happening when you plan on visiting.

Harvest Hike at Burning Kiln Winery
My absolute favourite time to visit the winery is in October, during the Harvest Hike.
The Harvest Hike is an event that began during COVID. It was so popular that the winery has continued to offer this event.
Participants take a leisurely stroll through the forest surrounding the vineyard with stops for some tastings of delectable wine along the way. In addition to the wine, hiker’s can expect to sample goodies from local shops. What better way to end a Fall hike than to warm up with a bowl of chili.
Notwithstanding that the Burning Kiln offers so many activities and adventures, it’s definitely the wine that has made this winery one of the best wineries in Norfolk County.

Inasphere Wines
Location: 1454 Front Road, St. Williams
Just down the street from the Burning Kiln Winery, you will find Inasphere Wines. Although the Burning Kiln is the most well-known and largest winery in Norfolk County, Inasphere is by far my favourite winery for many reasons.
The winery is owned and operated by a young family who you will often see serving up tasting flights to visitors. I love all the wine served at this winery, but the Cabernet Sauvignon is my absolute favourite.
What truly makes this winery so special are the views. While sipping on wine, you will also be provided the opportunity to take in the views of an Ontario UNESCO site, and over-looking Lake Erie.
The winery also has a small, self-serve, vegetable stand that offers the largest cabbages you’ve ever seen. They’re grown right on site so you know they’re as fresh as you can get.
Story Time: Myself and a group of friends were staying at a cottage about a mile down the road from the winery. It was in the dead of winter and it was a fridget, blustery day. My friend wanted to purchase a case of wine, but we knew there was no way we’d be able to carry it back to the cottage. The very nice owner said “not a problem, I’ll deliver it for you”. Low and behold, when we returned to the cottage, the box of wine was sitting on the back porch. That’s what I call customer service!

Blueberry Hill Estates
Location: 1195 Front Road, St. Williams
If you’re a wine lover who prefers “fruity” wines, then Blueberry Hill Estates is the place you want to be.
Crafting blueberry wine and hard ciders from the blueberries grown on the vast property surrounding the winery, this winery offers a fruity twist to wine.
In addition, to wine, you can also purchase jam, and baked goods made with the blueberries grown right there. Visitors can also pick their own blueberries, or purchase fresh or frozen.
What I love about this winery is the massive property which offers a variety of spots to sit back and enjoy the wine.

Driver’s Tip: All 3 of the above wineries are located within 1 to 2 miles of each other. This makes it easy for a DIY wine tour in Norfolk County
Hounds of Erie
Location: 377 7th Concession Road, Clear Creek
The Hounds of Erie is owned by Matt and Melissa. Matt is the wine-make extraordinaire, having begun his wine-making venture as a hobby in Kitchener-Waterloo.
In 2012, Mat and Melissa took their love of wine making to a whole new level. They purchased a 23 acre farm and began growing their own grapes and making their own wine.
What I love about the Hounds of Erie is that Mat and Melissa have maintained an intimate, friendly feel to the winery. It’s as if they’re welcoming back long lost friends to their home.
Tours of the grounds are available. Grab a glass of wine, and one of the guides will be happy to take you on a tour, full of information and stories.
Driver’s Tip: Fur babies are more than welcome at this Norfolk winery

Best Brew Pubs in Norfolk County
Charlotteville Brewing Company
Location: 1207 Charlotteville West Quarter Line, Simcoe
I will start by saying that I’m not much of a beer drinker, but I was blown away by this intimate brew pub.
I visited Charlotteville Brewing Company as part of a winery tour, and we were treated to a flight of 4 different beers, as well as cheese and crackers. In addition, we were given a tour of the beer making facility.
The brewery is family owned and operated where ingredients are organically grown on their on-site farm. The owners are true advocates for sustainability.
What I loved most about Charlotteville Brewing Company, is yes….the beer. However, it’s the hospitality and cozy decor that made me fall in love. In my opinion, Charlotteville Brewing Company is by far the best brew pub in Norfolk County.

NOTE: I must point out that there are other brew pubs in Norfolk County, however, I haven’t been so I haven’t included them in this post. I will be going back to Norfolk to visit the Blue Elephant Artisan Brewery and Hometown Brewing Company
